What is Vitiligo and Its Treatment

What is vitiligo and its treatment?

Vitiligo is a long-term problem in which growing patches of skin lose their color. It can affect people of any age, gender, or ethnic group. The patches appear when melanocytes within the skin die off. Melanocytes are the cells responsible for producing the skin pigment, melanin, which gives skin its color and protects it from the sun’s UV rays. The total area of skin that can be affected by vitiligo varies among individuals. It can also affect the eyes, the inside of the mouth, and the hair. In most cases, the affected areas remain discolored for the rest of the person’s life.

Vitiligo Treatment

There are dozens of theories around the appearance of vitiligo, for example, dysfunction of the endocrine-immune system or the imbalance of some of the metabolic processes. But none of them is exhaustive. That is why to cure vitiligo completely is impossible; since the cause of the disorder is not identified there is no option completely to cure the disorder. However, it is achievable to get some positive effect. At Lapiel we are known for achieving positive results when it comes to vitiligo treatment.

Available Procedures and Treatments:

  • EXCIMER 308 NM Treatments: This treatment/treatments can minimize vitiligo and, in many cases, even eliminate vitiligo depigmented patches. The excimer laser delivers a targeted beam of UVB light and only the areas of skin affected by vitiligo receive the laser energy. These treatments achieve complete response rates faster in a higher proportion of patients.
